Bubbling away with creative ideas, I realised that entering into the hubbub of the design world meant the word 'work' would be completely redefined. Heartfelt hard work, where putting in the hours brings happiness and fulfilment.
I have always had a good work ethic, approaching every job with the same enthusiasm. Starting my career as an Assistant Buyer at House of Fraser, a new role was created for me to help grow the Department's marketing events for the 52 stores and thus increase the departments turnover. Following this I became Advertorials Manager at Redwood Publishing and then worked in Germany for a web development company. However, it wasn't until just before the birth of my fourth child that I realised I could combine design with my love of computing. Enrolling for a Graphic Design Foundation degree allowed this journey to begin.
It was here I realised my love for not only creating design but coming up with exciting new concepts and looking at ways to enhance businesses. As part of a project, and way before 'Hello Fresh' and 'Mindful Chef' were on the radar, I came up with the idea of Eazy Peazy Penguin. Fresh, healthy meals with a 3 simple step recipe sheet, encouraging families to cook together.
Having graduated, I had the confidence to pursue my passion bringing an idea to life through clever design.
Then the dream began. I started 'Grit Graphics' and was lucky enough to be introduced to start-up companies that needed to bring the brand to life with logos, websites and marketing. Always keen to learn, I taught, and continue to teach myself, coding using HTML and CSS.
There is nothing like learning on the job. I now eat, sleep and dream Adobe, regularly using AI, PS, ID, AE and DW (to see some of my work, please click on left image).
Probably the most exciting project yet has been working with my sisters, who approached me in 2018 to help create a site that would bring solace to people during one of life's most challenging times. A funeral hub that was calm, easy to navigate, and full of helpful information, support groups, inspiration and planning tools - and so 'whiteballoon'. was born. The images, tone and overall feel of the website were so important .
Starting a company is the quickest learning curve, from discovering how to register a strong trademark, getting to grips with implementing Stripe payment system to working out where each others strengths lie.
